Course content
Your course is a list of modules, with optional quizzes. You build it in the Course Editor at app.learnt.tech.
Modules
- + Add module creates a module. Give it a title and write or paste the content: headings, lists, bold and italic, links, images and tables all work. Add videos with Add a video (below).
- Changes are saved when you press Save. Until then the editor shows "Unsaved changes", asks before you close or switch modules, and keeps a backup in your browser in case it crashes.
- Use the ↑ and ↓ buttons to reorder modules. Learners see them in this order.
- A module can hold about 400 KB of text. Longer ones are refused with
module_too_long; split them into two modules.
Import from PDF
Import from PDF turns a PDF into draft modules for you to review.
- PDFs up to 4 MB and 60 pages. Encrypted or password-protected PDFs can't be read.
- Learnt splits the PDF into up to 20 modules by its structure and keeps its pictures, diagrams and tables. For a longer document, split the PDF.
- Nothing is saved until you review the drafts and press Add modules to course. You can edit every module afterwards.
- You confirm that you own the content or have permission to use it before importing.
What import does and doesn't do
Learnt is told to use only what's in your PDF: not to add facts, examples or quotes. It can't add pictures; only the ones from your PDF are kept. Every imported module is marked Draft from your PDF until you review it, so read each one before your learners do.
- On the review screen each module shows as learners will see it. Edit text changes it in place.
- Expand into paragraphs appears on modules that are mostly short bullet points, as slide decks often are. It writes the bullets out as full sentences using only the facts and terms already in the module. Undo puts it back.
- Revise takes a request in your own words, such as "make this shorter" or "turn these bullets into steps". It changes words and layout, and can move or remove a picture. It can't draw, edit or replace pictures, or add facts that aren't in your PDF. When it can't do something, it says Nothing changed and why.
- Slide layouts drawn with lines, dots or boxes come across as plain text, not as made-up tables or line-art.
- Every imported module is tagged Draft from your PDF in the module list until you save it or press Mark as reviewed, so you can see which ones you haven't read yet. Learners never see the tag.
Images and video
- Images: JPG, PNG, WEBP or GIF, up to 4 MB each, 500 MB per workspace.
- Video: use Add a video and paste a YouTube or Vimeo link; it plays in place. Learnt doesn't host video files.
Quizzes
Under Quizzes, + Add quiz creates a quiz (and switches quizzes on for the course if they were off).
- Placement: at the end of the course, or after a specific module.
- Pass mark: 1–100%.
- Retakes: immediately, or after a wait you set in minutes.
- Questions: True / False, or multiple choice (tick the correct option).
- A quiz goes live for learners only once it has at least one question.
When a course has a quiz, a learner finishes the course by passing it, and their certificate becomes available.
Draft and Published
The toggle in Course Settings controls who can open the course:
- Draft: only you can see the course.
- Published: enrolled learners can open it.
A published course with no modules yet tells learners "Your training is being prepared. Check back soon."
Download your course
Download course (Course Settings, and Billing) gives you the whole course as one markdown file: each module starts with # and its title, in order, with headings, lists, links, tables and video embeds kept. Pictures stay as links to your workspace's copies, so they keep working while your workspace exists. Quizzes come after their module as notes (HTML comments), with the right answers ticked.
It's the same format Import a whole course from markdown reads, so you can edit the file and import it again. The import skips the quiz notes, so learners never see them; add quizzes again in the Course Editor. It works after your trial ends or you cancel, too: your course is yours. From code: GET /export/markdown in the API.
